Aloo Keema: A South Asian Comfort Dish
Aloo Keema, a classic South Asian dish, is a flavorful combination of minced meat and potatoes simmered in a rich blend of aromatic spices. This comforting dish is a staple in Pakistani and Indian households, known for its warm, hearty flavors and easy preparation. Traditionally served with naan or basmati rice, it’s an excellent choice for a fulfilling meal any day of the week.
500g ground beef or lamb
2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
3-4 green chilies, chopped
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/4 cup oil
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Directions:

- Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Sauté onions until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in tomatoes and cook until soft, with oil separating.
- Add ground meat, breaking it apart, and cook until browned.
- Mix in turmeric, red chili powder, cumin, coriander, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add potatoes and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then simmer.
- Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala, adjust salt, and garnish with fresh coriander.
- Serve with naan, roti, or rice.
