Aloo Keema: A South Asian Comfort Dish

Aloo Keema, a classic South Asian dish, is a flavorful combination of minced meat and potatoes simmered in a rich blend of aromatic spices. This comforting dish is a staple in Pakistani and Indian households, known for its warm, hearty flavors and easy preparation. Traditionally served with naan or basmati rice, it’s an excellent choice for a fulfilling meal any day of the week.

500g ground beef or lamb
2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
3-4 green chilies, chopped
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/4 cup oil
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Directions:

  1. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Sauté onions until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomatoes and cook until soft, with oil separating.
  4. Add ground meat, breaking it apart, and cook until browned.
  5. Mix in turmeric, red chili powder, cumin, coriander, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add potatoes and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then simmer.
  7. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala, adjust salt, and garnish with fresh coriander.
  9. Serve with naan, roti, or rice.
