Oreo Chocolate Layer Cake

Ingredients:

For the chocolate cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

For the Oreo cream frosting:

  • 1½ cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup finely crushed Oreo cookies (without filling)

For the chocolate ganache:

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For decoration:

  • Whole Oreo cookies
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir in hot water until the batter is smooth and thin.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and let cool completely on wire racks.
  7. Prepare the frosting by beating the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla. Mix until fluffy, then fold in crushed Oreos.
  8. Make the ganache by heating heavy cream until steaming. Pour over chocolate chips and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth and let cool slightly.
  9. Assemble the cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread Oreo frosting over the top. Repeat with the second and third layers. Frost the outside and top of the cake with remaining frosting.
  10. Drizzle ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides. Decorate with whipped cream swirls and whole Oreo cookies.

Chill for 30 minutes before slicing.
